Happy New Year!
New year, new me, new goals, new mindset...you get it. We’re manifesting and claiming what’s ours this year, and for me, that means getting back to life and on my travel game, since my car accident. If you follow me on my personal IG, @chubbcheeks, then you know my story, if not, then follow ya girl, but I was in a car accident back in September 2019 and have been in a halo device since then. I’m well into my recovery but still have some healing to do, so as soon as my surgeon gives me the o-k, it’s back to life and wheels up for the Travel Jawn!
Now, onto the new year’s resolutions...
I’ll let y’all know now, I’m very pro new year’s resolutions, pro lists, and pro-goal setting (it’s definitely the Capricorn in me) and I think it’s something everyone should do for themselves. Yes, there’s a lot of hype around resolutions but if it gets you to get a jump start on your goals, I’m here for it. Writing down your goals makes them more tangible, and when things are tangible, they are one step closer to being accomplished. Pen and paper, notes in your phone, even voice notes will do, just get it out of your head.
Originally, I was going to write up a very vague description of my goals and places I want to travel to this year but 2020 deserves intentionality, and I’m going to give it just that. This year, I’m celebrating the gift of life like never before by acting on my fears and being more intentional with my moves. Simply put, living a life filled with gratitude and purpose.
2020 Goals
Resurgence
Clearly, after not being able to work, travel, or even drive for months, my top goal for 2020 is to revive my life, with a fresh new outlook. I’m choosing to be excited about everyday things and to not take life for granted. My life will get back to what it usually consists of but I want to take my time to enjoy it, instead of going back to the rush my life used to consist of. One thing I started in 2019 that really made a difference in my life was writing in a gratitude journal daily. Gratitude is truly transformative. And if you don’t already, I suggest writing down at least one thing you’re grateful for daily and see the difference it makes in your life.
Consistency
Whew. My blog, working out, my business. Man, I won’t get started on my lack of consistency in these areas. The important thing is that I’m here to change and change starts with acknowledgement of a flaw. I enjoy thriving is each of these areas but then I get distracted, busy, and worst of all, lazy. I’m sure you can relate getting going on a good streak of productivity and then losing it. It starts with changing my mindset and working on my habits daily. If you don’t invest the time and energy into things you want to achieve, the shit ain’t gonna happen. Straight like that.
Discovery
I can’t sit still, but with good reason. Traveling is a huge part of who I am, hence why I’m talking to y’all about it here. I love discovering new places, things, foods and revisiting my favorite places and I want to take advantage of this time in my life where I can do this. I had to cancel multiple trips because of my accident, including going back to the continent for #theyearofreturn and boy, did that suck. But it’s all good ‘cause I’m back on my bully this year! Now, my list may seem ambitious but to know me is to know that ambitious is my middle name. I’ve mapped out my yearly budget, time, and PTO already for these trips and a couple more (more tips, soon come).
Here’s my 2020 travel list:
New Places: Panama, Mexico, Amalfi Coast, Switzerland, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Dubai, Chicago, Kansas City, Cruise
Revisiting: Puerto Rico, Coachella, Miami, Nigeria, London, Italy
New Event(s): Art Basel, Afrochella and/or Afronation
Staycation: Philadelphia and NYC
What are your goals for 2020?
It’s never too late to get thoughts organized and plans made. If you don’t have any new goals, it always helps to reflect on your past year and how you can improve in certain areas. No one’s perfect. As cliche as it sounds, kick off your 2020 right with intentional goal setting and a fresh look on a new year! I cringed too but it’s true.
